A research team from Andi Sudirman University, Hasanuddin University, Muhammadiyah Makassar University and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) assessed the effectiveness of land cover in Borisallo Village, Parangloe District, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi. The study, published in the Wasian Journal, found that several areas in the village still require conservation measures to prevent landslides and erosion, particularly on sloping land.
According to the research, soil permeability at the site falls into the slow category. Permeability is the soil's capacity to absorb water. When rainwater infiltrates with difficulty, the soil surface is more easily eroded, especially on sloping land. Although land cover is already present, these conditions are not yet sufficient to hold back water flow and maintain soil stability.
These findings are important for forest-edge communities and farmers in hilly areas. Land with steep slopes needs to be managed with conservation measures, such as planting water-retaining vegetation or constructing terraces. The research, conducted from October 2023 to April 2024, also analysed the physical and chemical properties of the soil, including organic matter, bulk density and porosity, to support conservation recommendations in Borisallo Village.
