A research team from the Central Sulawesi Natural Resources Conservation Agency and the Manado Forestry Research Institute has formulated an ecotourism development strategy for Wera Nature Tourism Park (TWA). Published in the Journal Wasian in 2015, the study assessed tourism potential from both supply and demand perspectives before setting out a development direction that supports effective management of the conservation area. The findings place the development of Wera's nature tourism within an aggressive strategy, namely intensive promotion targeting specific segments.
According to the study, the most appropriate segments to target are students and people aged between 7 and 35. In terms of tourism types, TWA Wera is considered suitable for development as a destination for natural scenery, natural phenomena, wildlife observation, hiking, education and conservation, outbound activities, religious tourism and rural tourism. The researchers note that sustainable nature tourism development in this area requires synergy among many parties and robust resource management.
For communities living around the forest, this development direction opens up business opportunities and involvement in tourism activities. For area managers, the strategy serves as a reference so that tourism use remains aligned with natural resource conservation efforts.
