Makassar – The Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh Makassar) has once again demonstrated its commitment to enhancing the quality of human resources through international programmes. One student from the Forestry Study Programme has successfully passed the selection for an international internship in Japan and was officially released by the Faculty of Agriculture leadership to participate in the Japan International Internship in the field of forestry.
The selected student is Zulkarnain, a 2023 cohort student of the Forestry Study Programme. He passed after undergoing a selection and interview process facilitated by Tecsupo Japan on Friday (5 September 2025), with the official results announced on Monday (22 September 2025). Zulkarnain will undertake a one-year internship at Yamada Forestry, Gifu Prefecture, Japan, to gain hands-on experience in sustainable forest management practices and broaden his global perspective in forestry.
The release ceremony was held at the Faculty of Agriculture, Unismuh Makassar, and was attended by faculty leadership, lecturers, and the academic community. This event served as a significant moment, reflecting the institution's support for students who will gain international experience.
The Head of the Forestry Study Programme, Jauhar Mukti, stated that the student's success in securing a place on the international internship programme is a source of pride for the study programme. He noted that this opportunity demonstrates that Unismuh Makassar forestry students are capable of competing at an international level and possess great potential for development.
In her address, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Unismuh Makassar, Dr Ir. Andi Khaeriyah, M.Pd., IPU, conveyed a message of hope that the student participating in the international internship would uphold the good name of the alma mater and make the most of this opportunity. She emphasised that the international internship is not merely a work experience but also a learning platform to understand modern technology, management, and forestry practices that can be applied in Indonesia.
The Dean also advised the student to act as an ambassador for the Faculty of Agriculture and Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar on a global stage by demonstrating discipline, responsibility, and a strong spirit of learning. Furthermore, the experience gained in Japan is expected to be shared with other students upon returning home.
Through this programme, the student is expected to enhance both academic competence and practical skills, while also expanding international networks. The Faculty of Agriculture, Unismuh Makassar, continues to encourage students to boldly compete at the global level through various student exchange programmes, international internships, and cross-border academic collaborations.
The Japan International Internship is scheduled to commence in early March 2026. It is hoped that this programme will provide valuable experience for the student and make a real contribution to the development of sustainable forestry and agriculture sectors in Indonesia, particularly in South Sulawesi.
