Makassar, 09 June 2026 – The commitment of Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar to expanding its international network and enhancing student competence has once again received support from global industry partners. This was marked by an official visit from representatives of Japanese companies, Tescupo and Maze Construction, to the Unismuh Makassar campus to follow up on the implementation of the Batch II International Internship Programme for students of the Faculty of Agriculture, particularly the Forestry Study Programme.
The visit was attended directly by the CEO of Tescupo Japan, Tomio Nakagawa, and the CEO of Maze Construction, Morimoto, who came to conduct observations and direct interviews with students participating in the selection process for the international internship programme, who will be placed in Japan.
The delegation was officially welcomed by Dr. Ir. H. Abd. Rakhim Nanda, M.T., IPU, Rector of Unismuh Makassar, accompanied by the vice-rectors, the Chair of the Board of Trustees (BPH) of Unismuh Makassar, the leadership of the Faculty of Agriculture, the Head of the Forestry Study Programme, and lecturers.
In his remarks, the Rector of Unismuh Makassar expressed high appreciation for the trust given by Tescupo and Maze Construction to Unismuh Makassar as a partner in human resource development through the international internship programme.
“We greatly appreciate the visit from Tescupo and Maze Construction Japan. This programme provides a very valuable opportunity for Unismuh Makassar students to learn directly in an international work environment, gain global experience, and enhance their competence and competitiveness in the future,” said Rakhim Nanda.
According to him, the international internship programme is not only a means of improving students' technical skills but also a medium for learning about culture, work ethic, and character building, which are essential in facing global competition.
He hopes that the established cooperation can continue and develop so that more Unismuh Makassar students will have the opportunity to study and work abroad.
“We hope that this international internship programme can be carried out sustainably every year and reach more students from various study programmes,” he added.
Faculty of Agriculture Encourages the Birth of Excellent Human Resources with Global Competitiveness
In line with the Rector of Unismuh Makassar, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Ir. Andi Khaeriyah., M.Pd., IPU, also expressed appreciation for the presence of the Tescupo and Maze Construction Japan team.
According to her, this visit is tangible evidence that the Faculty of Agriculture continues to strive to open international access and opportunities for students so that they can compete at the global level.
“The direct presence of company representatives from Japan shows their seriousness in establishing cooperation with Unismuh Makassar. This is a great opportunity for Faculty of Agriculture students to develop competence, experience, and international insight,” she said.
She added that the international internship programme aligns with the Faculty of Agriculture's vision of producing excellent, professional human resources who have a positive impact on society.
“We hope that all students participating in the selection process can demonstrate their best abilities and successfully pass to the second stage so that they can become ambassadors of the Faculty of Agriculture in Japan,” she stated.
Forestry Study Programme Committed to Facilitating Students Towards Global Experience
Meanwhile, the Head of the Forestry Study Programme at Unismuh Makassar, Ir. Jauhar Mukti, S.Hut., M.Hut., IPM, emphasised that the international internship programme is a form of the study programme's commitment to preparing graduates with global competence.
He explained that the Forestry Study Programme consistently strives to expand opportunities for students to gain learning experiences abroad, including through cooperation with various international companies and institutions.
“The international internship programme targeting Forestry students is expected to continue every year. We hope that all students undergoing the interview and selection process can deliver their best results so that they can advance to the next stage,” he said.
Jauhar also revealed that this cooperation is not the first of its kind. In the previous year, the Forestry Study Programme at Unismuh Makassar had successfully sent one student to participate in an international internship programme in Japan.
“The success of our student in the international internship last year serves as motivation and proof that Unismuh Forestry students can compete at the international level. Therefore, we will continue to facilitate and encourage students to seize such global opportunities,” he explained.
Direct Interviews with Prospective Internship Students
In addition to meetings with university and faculty leadership, the Tescupo and Maze Construction teams also conducted direct interviews with students who had passed the initial selection stage for the Batch II International Internship Programme.
The interview process aimed to assess students' readiness in terms of communication skills, motivation, discipline, and readiness to adapt to the Japanese work environment and culture.
The CEO of Tescupo Japan, Tomio Nakagawa, stated that Indonesian students, particularly from Unismuh Makassar, have great potential to thrive in an international work environment.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Maze Construction, Morimoto-San, noted that the enthusiasm for learning and the eagerness of students undergoing the selection process are important assets in supporting the success of the internship programme in Japan.
This visit is a strategic step in strengthening the cooperative relationship between Unismuh Makassar and the international industry.
