Makassar, 23 November 2025 – Third-semester students of the Forestry Study Programme at Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar carried out an integrated field practice for the courses on Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) and Bioenergy at the NTFP Innovation Centre, Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS).
This activity aimed to provide students with hands-on experience in the cultivation and processing of various non-timber forest commodities and bioenergy sources. The practical sessions covered the cultivation and processing of silkworms, honey bees, oyster mushrooms, eucalyptus oil, biobriquettes, and biogas. In addition, participants were introduced to a range of high-economic-value plants, including agarwood, cinnamon, nutmeg, early-bearing sugar palm, mulberry, medicinal plants, as well as species yielding essential oils and resins.
The full-day event was guided directly by Ir. Muh. Daud, S.Hut., M.Si., IPM, the course instructor. He emphasised the importance of students understanding the vast potential of non-timber forest products in supporting community livelihoods and sustainable development.
Through this activity, students are expected not only to grasp theoretical concepts but also to acquire practical skills in the sustainable and productive management of forest resources.
