A number of students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar took part in the Belajar Lestari dari Rimbawan (BESTARI RIMBA) programme, an environmental education initiative organised by BP2SDM of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The activity took place on 13 November 2025 and was centred on two main locations: Balai PS2DM VI Makassar and the Forest Area with Special Purpose (KHDTK) Tabo-Tabo, Pangkep Regency.
Under the theme “Forest Explorer: Educational Trekking and Citizen Science for Young Generations”, the programme was designed to introduce students to forest conservation concepts through a field-based learning approach. Participants not only received material on environmental management but were also directly involved in forest exploration, field observation, and basic citizen science practices.
The activity was accompanied by two lecturers from the Forestry Study Programme at Unismuh Makassar. Through mentoring and direct interaction with forest rangers, students are expected to broaden their horizons, enhance environmental awareness, and understand the importance of collaboration among young generations in preserving forest sustainability.
The BESTARI RIMBA programme represents one of the strategic efforts to cultivate a generation of environmentally conscious and competitive conservationists, while simultaneously strengthening the synergy between universities and government institutions on sustainable forestry issues.
