Internship Briefing for Forestry Study Programme at Unismuh Makassar Emphasises Professionalism in Various Forestry Institutions

The Forestry Study Programme of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, held the opening session of the student internship briefing on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, at the Faculty of Agriculture Hall. The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Ir. Andi Khaeriyah, M.Pd., IPU, and was attended by the vice deans, lecturers of the Forestry Study Programme, and the 2023 cohort of internship students.

Purpose of the Internship Briefing

This internship briefing is a mandatory preliminary stage that students must complete before undertaking internships at various forestry institutions. Its aim is to provide an initial understanding of the technical aspects of the internship, academic ethics, and the mental and professional readiness of students when they enter the field.

Key Messages from the Head of the Forestry Study Programme

In his remarks, the Head of the Forestry Study Programme, Ir. Jauhar Mukti, S.Hut., M.Hut., IPM, emphasised the importance of students thoroughly understanding the description and characteristics of the internship locations they will be assigned to. According to him, this understanding will help students adapt to the working environment while maximising the learning process during the internship.

“This year, there are five internship locations spread across various regions of Indonesia, namely KPH Ajatappareng, BPTH Wilayah II Makassar, BPDAS Jeneberang Saddang, Tambora National Park Office, and Rinjani National Park Office. Each student will also be accompanied by an internship supervising lecturer according to their respective placement locations,” he explained.

Dean's Advice for Students

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Ir. Andi Khaeriyah, M.Pd., IPU, in her directives reminded students to always uphold the good name of the alma mater during the internship. She also encouraged students to use the internship opportunity as a real learning space to develop skills, professional attitudes, and work experience in the forestry sector.

“An internship is not only about fulfilling academic obligations, but also about building character, work ethics, and the ability to adapt in the professional world. Learn as many new things as possible and make this experience a provision for the future,” she asserted.

Materials Delivered During the Briefing

During this internship briefing, students received three main materials delivered by lecturers of the Forestry Study Programme. These materials covered an understanding of field data collection methods, data analysis techniques, as well as guidelines and the systematic structure for writing internship reports. These three materials are expected to serve as practical guidelines for students in carrying out and reporting their internship activities in a scientific and systematic manner.

Expected Outcomes

Through this briefing activity, the Forestry Study Programme of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, hopes that the 2023 internship students will be better prepared, more focused, and more professional in carrying out their duties at their respective internship locations, while also being able to make a positive contribution to the institutions where they undertake their internships.
