Unismuh Makassar Forestry Study Programme Holds AI-Based Scientific Writing Training, Aims for Students to Immediately Draft Thesis Proposals

The Forestry Study Programme at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar successfully held the Batch 1 Scientific Writing Programme on 14–15 November 2025, focusing on the use of AI in academic writing to accelerate student graduation.

The Forestry Study Programme at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar successfully held the Batch 1 Scientific Writing Programme on 14–15 November 2025 at the Faculty of Agriculture Hall, Menara Iqra, 6th Floor. The event carried the theme “Training on the Use of AI in Scientific Writing as a Strategy to Accelerate Student Graduation” and was attended by final-year students and supervising lecturers.

This training aimed to enhance students' competence in composing scientific works, particularly through the appropriate, ethical, and effective use of artificial intelligence technology. Participants received material covering research framework development, paraphrasing techniques and automatic citation, AI-based data processing, and strategies for writing research proposals that meet academic standards.

The Head of the Forestry Study Programme, Ir. Jauhar Mukti, S.Hut., M.Hut., IPM, in his speech emphasised that the main target of this activity is to encourage students to draft their thesis proposals in the near future. He stated that proposal preparation is a crucial stage for students to achieve On-Time Graduation (KTW), which is a commitment of the study programme. “We hope this training will not only improve technical skills but truly accelerate students in designing research proposals so that they can immediately enter the thesis supervision stage and complete their studies on time,” he said.

He also added that AI is not a tool to weaken thinking ability, but a technology that, if used correctly, can support the production of structured and high-quality scientific works.

Over the two days of activities, participants engaged in interactive discussions and hands-on practice that guided them in applying AI technology at every stage of scientific writing. The participants' enthusiasm was evident from the numerous questions, research ideas, and initial proposal drafts that began to take shape during the training sessions.

With the implementation of this activity, the Forestry Study Programme hopes that all participants will soon produce thesis proposal drafts and proceed to the formal supervision stage. This activity is planned to become a sustainable programme as part of the strategy to improve academic quality and accelerate graduation within the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar.
