Barru – Hundreds of Forestry students from Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar took part in an integrated field practice held from 28 to 30 April at the Unismuh Makassar Educational Forest, Pacekke Village, Barru Regency. This activity forms a key part of field-based learning that integrates various courses into a single hands-on exercise.
The event commenced with a welcoming ceremony for students and lecturers held in the hall of the Pacekke Village Office. A warm and enthusiastic atmosphere was evident in the speeches delivered by village officials and campus representatives, who emphasised the importance of synergy between academia and the community in the sustainable management of forest resources.
The field practice was attended by students from various cohorts, creating a space for collaboration and shared learning in the field. Throughout the activity, students engaged in a range of technical forestry tasks, from an introduction to forest ecosystems and vegetation inventory to observations of the social aspects of forestry in the surrounding area.
Supervising lecturers provided direct guidance in the field, ensuring that each student understood the connections between the theories studied in the classroom and the real conditions encountered on site. In addition, the activity aimed to cultivate practical skills, a professional attitude, and a sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation.
Through the successful organisation of this integrated field practice, it is hoped that students will develop comprehensive competencies as future foresters, while also strengthening their commitment to supporting sustainable forest management in the years to come.
